When to Use a Retained Executive Search Firm

Retained Executive Search Firms are effective for different reasons

The Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC) conducted a survey on the use of Retained Executive Search Firms for key openings and compared the choice to other resources used such as internal recruiting departments, contingent recruiters, and RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing).

In eight out of nine situations, companies chose retained executive search firms as the most effective tool to fill their executive talent search, as illustrated by the graphic below.

The highest use of retained executive search firms is for C Suite positions at 74%. Closely followed by Board Positions at 63%, and executive positions compensated from $300K to $399K. Of note is also confidential executive search, hard to fill executive search, and cross border executive search.
